About Us What & who makes us tick!
How It All Began
Spotnab was born from the need to share information between systems without reliance on a centralised service. In 2013 a software application called newznab required a way to share information between installations. The developer and Spotnab founder, who goes by the nickname 'l2g' subsequently invented a mechanism of posting and retrieving this information via usenet in an encrypted form. Later on a mechanism for 'auto discovery beacons' was added, which allows systems to discover the existence of other information providers.
The name
The name came from a combination of spotweb and newznab.
The Future
Using Spotnab it is now possible for any systems, in any language, on any platform to share information without the need for a central server, and we hope it will be extended to cover many uses it was never originally envisioned for.
